FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 30, 2018) - Simone Gmuca recorded a top-20 finish for the Queens College women's cross country team as the Knights finished first among all Division II schools in the 6K run at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 29) at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, N.Y. QC was 12th overall in the women's race and 16th-best in the men's race, with Clivensky Etienne's eighth-place run leading the Knights to a second-place finish among Division II schools in the 8K event to close the day.
Gmuca posted her best finish of the season with an 18th-place time of 27:50 to finish in second place for Division II runners behind Dominican (N.Y.) runner Kaitlynn Connor. Diana Cruz continued to make significant strides on the season as she placed just outside the top-30 with a time of 28:41. Meanwhile, Crystal Jia's six-kilometer time of 29:18 gave her a top-50 finish as Gillian Kisling (33:47) and Adelisa Hot (36:12) also contributed points for the Knights.
In the men's race, Etienne crushed the course with a six-minute mile pace and a 29:46 overall time to earn another top-ten showing for the senior. He, like Gmuca, was also second-best among all Division II runners and placed behind Darren Guzman of Dominican (N.Y.) for that honor. Freshman Noel Guzman (32:34) finished inside the top-100 at the meet, placing in 69th as Philippe Bernardin (35:01) and Jose Osorio Fernandez (36:04) finished inside the top-150.
The Knights will next compete on Saturday (Oct. 6) at the NJIT Highlander Technology Challenge, at the windy Branch Brook Park course in Newark, N.J.
