BETHPAGE, N.Y. (Aug. 31, 2018) - The Queens College women's cross country team openend its 2018 campaign finishing tops amongst East Coast Conference competitors and sixth out of 20 competing schools at the Adelphi Panthers XC Invitational on Friday (Aug. 31) at Bethpage Polo Park.
Diana Cruz led the Knights with a 21st-place finish, running the 5K course in a time of 21:13.10. Simone Gmuca earned a 36th-place finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 22:31.00 and Nakeema Neunie's time of 22:44.10 represented a 44th-place showcase for Queens in the event. The Knights also had a good showing from Alyssa Meltzer (52nd-place, 23:05.30) and Crystal Gia (60th-place, 23:29.20) and the event also featured the debut of Gillian Kisling (25:34.20) and Adelisa Hot (28:42.40).
On the men's side, the Knights finished 13th with Clivensky Etienne's 31st-place time of 28:27.90 leading the way. Noel Guzman finished his first cross country meet with a 55th-place showing, clocking a 29:56.60 on the 8K course in Bethpage. Gregory Klimaytis, Ryan Woody and Pavan Bhat also competed in their first race with QC as the Knights settle into their groove for the remaining meets of the season.
The Knights will take next week off before splitting the squads up the following week. The women's team will head to Iona on Sept. 14 for the Paddy Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park; the men's team will go to NYIT on Sept. 15 to compete in the NYIT Invitational at Old Westbury.
