NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Four members of the Queens College women's cross country team finished in the top 50 among nearly 200 runners, as the Knights competed at the Mount Saint Mary College (MSMC) Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
The women's team finished 12th among 24 teams, while the men's squad came in 15th out of 25 teams.
Senior Diana Cruz led the way, coming in 44th out of 198 with a time of 27:54 in the 6K race. Just behind Cruz were three more Knights in junior Alyssa Meltzer, sophomore Nakeema Neunie and freshman Crystal Jia. Meltzer was 47th with a time of 28:06, while Neunie and Jia both finished in 28:15 to crack the top 50.
Senior Luis Campos Castro was the men's top finisher, placing in the top 100 in 32:15 along with newcomer Dawson Durant, who finished in 33:00. Senior Jacob Lascano was close behind with a time of 33:11 over the 8K course.
Queens will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 8, when the Knights take part in the York College Invitational.
