BRONX, N.Y. – The Queens College cross country teams opened up their seasons at the Queensborough Invitational on Sunday, with the women's squad putting forth a strong effort with a sixth-place showing.
The Knights' women were sixth out of 27 teams, while the men placed 21st among 25 squads.
Sophomore Nakeema Neunie led the way for the women's team by coming in 25th with a time of 22:38.79. Junior Alyssa Meltzer wasn't far behind, placing 35th with a mark of 23:21.84. Senior Diana Cruz ran in 24:18.60 to finish 51st among a large field of finishers, while sophomore Angie Calle also finished in the top half of the leaderboard with a time of 26:03.62.
On the men's side, senior Jacob Lascano was the Knights top finisher, clocking in at 34:44.6 on the 8k course. Fellow senior Jose Osorio Fernandez posted a time of 34:59.0, and newcomer Dawsen Durant ran in 35:01.0 in his Queens debut.
The Knights will travel to Newburgh, N.Y., next on Saturday, Sept. 30, for the 10th annual Mount Saint Mary Knight Invitational.
