FLUSHING, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2018) - The Queens College volleyball team put forth comeback efforts in each of its three sets on Saturday (Sept. 29) against Roberts Wesleyan but the Knights fell short in each set to the Redhawks in Fitzgerald Gymnasium. Set scores favored the visitors by counts of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-20.
Queens (1-12, 0-4 ECC) was led by Leeks Hollis, as the senior totaled seven kills and seven digs. Lauren Kehoe added six kills and posted a .333 hitting percentage, but the team hit just .106 on the match in full. Dee-Ana Mitchell added five kills for Queens and ten digs in the losing effort while Vanessa Juengerkes dished out a team-high 14 assists and added nine digs.
Roberts Wesleyan (3-10, 2-2 ECC) launched 12 service aces in the three-set sweep as Grace Detwiler had six aces from the service stripe by herself. The Redhawks hit .204 on the afternoon with Rachel Holmes scoring a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs on a .290 hitting clip. Lauren Taeko Chase dished out 29 assists and Shelby Strausbaugh had 11 digs as well.
Queens will have a quick turnaround as the Knights will host Daemen on Sunday (Sept. 30) at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m.
