Volleyball Swept in Tri-Match Losses to Georgian Court and Kutztown

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (Sept. 7, 2018) - The Queens College volleyball team was unable to pick up a victory on Friday (Sept. 7), losing straight-set sweeps to Georgian Court and Kutztown at the Wellness Center on the campus of GCU in Lakewood, N.J.

Georgian Court 3, Queens (NY) 0: 25-12, 25-8, 25-11

Dee-Ana Mitchell led the Knights with four kills and Alisha Matthews added eight assists in the match. Leeks Hollis and Gina Giacalone paced Queens with six digs and five digs, respectively. Georgian Court pounded 15 service aces in the three-set win with six coming from Trilby Kite, who also dished out a match-high 12 assists. The Lions led the first set by a an 11-10 margin before scoring 14 of the next 16 points to win the opening frame on their way to the match-victory.

Kutztown 3, Queens (NY) 0: 25-23, 25-6, 25-10

Lauren Kehoe had a team-high five kills with Mitchell and Briana Green adding four kills and Danielle Agbonifino pitching in with three. Matthews posted an 11-assist match and Giacalone contribued 12 digs in the back row as well. Kutztown opened the first set on a 5-0 run but Queens stormed back as a Matthews ace, an attack error and a kill by Green leveled the frame at 11-all. The Golden Bears went on a mini-run to grab a 16-12 lead and QC fought heartily to stay in the set, coming within 24-23 following a Kehoe kill. Kutztown, however, claimed the next point to win the frame; the Golden Bears led 14-6 in the second set before scoring the final eleven points en route to the win.

Queens will enter conference play on Wednesday (Sept. 12) with a 7 p.m. contest against defending East Coast Conference champions Molloy at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre.
