Volleyball Falters in Three-Set Sweep at Hands of Southern Connecticut Tuesday

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Sept. 4, 2018) - The Queens College volleyball team dropped a three-set affair to Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday (Sept. 4) with the Owls claiming sets of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-10 at Pelz Gymnasium.

Briana Green, Lauren Kehoe and Leeks Hollis each posted three kills for Queens (0-5), with the Knights being stifled on offense for most of the evening. Alisha Matthews had just nine assists, with Hollis collecting a team-high ten digs. Gina Giacalone added seven digs off the bench for QC in the losing effort.

Southern Connecticut (5-4) was led by a blistering attack from Alyssa Gage and Gabriela Vazquez. The two combined for 29 kills in the match with Gage picking up 18 of them. Vazquez, meanwhile, hit .526 (11 kills in 19 attempts) and Kailyn O'Neal dished out 30 assists. The Owls powered their way to the match win with a second-set hitting percentage of .387 and a final-set hitting clip of .480 to pick up the victory.

Queens will travel to Lakewood, N.J. on Friday (Sept. 7) for a tri-match with Georgian Court and Kutztown. The Knights face the host Lions at 3 p.m. before taking on Kutztown at 5 p.m.
