Smithwick's Record-Setting Afternoon Headlines Track and Field's Performance at Ramapo Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2018) – Olivia Smithwick set a new school record in the women's weight throw and Terrilyn Britton was victorious in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash events to lead the way for the Queens College track and field teams at the Ramapo College Season Opener Meet at the prestigious Armory on Friday (Jan. 19).

Smithwick's record-setting throw of 13.23 meters placed her fifth overall in the event and bested the previous record set by QC alumna and current York College (NY) coach Danely Rodriguez, who was at the meet with her squads for the milestone moment. That started off a fantastic day of finishes on the women's side, with Britton's two victories in short sprints also pacing the Knights. The senior qualified for the 60-meter dash finals in a time of 7.96 seconds, and in the finals, she better that mark and won the race in a time of 7.92 seconds. Britton was also dominant in posting the best time in the 200-meter dash, winning the event with a clocking of 25.59 seconds.

Diana Cruz continued to put together an impressive indoor season with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter run, posting a time of one minute and forty-nine one-hundredths of a second (1:00.49). Nakeemah Neunie ran tenth in the 800-meter race (2:33.96) and the sophomore placed 17th in the 400-meter run with a time of 5:54.07. DaMira Banks was tenth in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries as well, missing the finals but posting a solid time of 9.80 seconds.

On the men's side, freshman Andrew Saulpaugh executed another solid performance in the weight throw with a fourth-place finish (14.14 meters). Jacob Lascano ran a 4:45.80 mile for the Knights to place 23rd overall.

The Knights are back in action on Feb. 9 when the team returns to the Armory for the NYU Invitational.
