STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Jan. 13, 2018) - Terrilyn Britton posted the top time in the 60-meter dash and also finished in eighth in the 200-meter run to highlight a solid performance from the Queens College track and field teams on Friday (Jan. 12) at the Saint Thomas Aquinas Spartan Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island.
The senior ran the 60-meters in a blazing time of 7.91 seconds to claim first place overall among the 73 runners, which included Division I talents from Rider University and Marist College. Britton also ran a 26.14-second 200-meter dash and was the eighth-place finisher among all Division II/III runners, with teammate Diana Cruz (26.41s) placing tenth in the same classification. Cruz continued her fantastic performance from a week prior with a second-place finish in the 500-meter run (1:19.91) as sophomore Nakeema Neunie also ran well and claimed a sixth-place showing with a time of 1:26.20. The Knights continued to show excellent poise as freshman Alyssa Meltzer captured a top-10 finish in the 800-meters with a time of 2:40.91; Neunie ran fifth among D2/D3 athletes in the 1000-meter distance (3:25.13). The 4x400 relay team of Cruz, Britton, Neunie and Damira Banks finished sixth for the Knights in a time of 4:14.73 and Erin Leonard capped off the strong showing for the QC women's squad with an eighth-place effort in the weight throw (12.80m).
The QC men's team had a few strong showcases as well, beginning with John Hines claiming a 21st-place effort in the 200-meter race with a time of 23.64 seconds. Johnathan Dinh scored a 26th-place time of 53.83 seconds in the men's 400-meter race as Andrew Saulpaugh finished in 13th place in the men's weight throw competition (13.47 meters).
The Knights are next set to compete on Friday (Jan. 19) at the Ramapo Invitational to be held at the world-famous Armory track complex in Manhattan.
