Indira Avila Named to USTFCCCA Indoor Track All-Region Squad

NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently announced its 2011-12 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field all-region teams, and Queens College women's standout Indira Avila (Hicksville, N.Y.) garnered All-East Region accolades in the 5,000-meter run.

Avila, who garnered all-region praise in this past fall's cross country season after placing fifth at the NCAA Division II East Regional Cross Country Championships, ran to a season-best time during the indoor campaign in the 5k with a winning time of 17:44.88 at the Collegiate Track Conference Indoor Championships (Feb. 11). She also paced head coach Greg Welch's Knights in the mile run (5:10.37) and the 3,000-meter run (10:19.31) -- both at the Jan. 20, Long Island Indoor Championship.
