NEW YORK - The Queens College women's track and field team opened the 2012 portion of its indoor slate Friday night at the Metropolitan Coaches Invitational, held at the Armory Track and Field Center. One school record fell on the night, which was amongst five top-five finishes for the Knights.

Fresh off a national-level cross country season, senior Indira Avila (Hicksville, N.Y.) placed second in the mile run (5:24.4) and third in the 3,000-meter run (10:34.17). Meanwhile, freshman Briana Davis (Corona, N.Y.) and junior Katherine Colon (W. Babylon, N.Y.) each placed fifth in the shot put (33-6) and 800-meter run (2:30.60), respectively.
Head coach Greg Welch's Knights are back in action Saturday, Jan. 14, when they travel to New Haven, Conn., for the Yale Invitational.
