WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Oct. 29, 2018) - For the 13th time in his illustrious career of coaching the Queens College women's tennis team, Alan Nagel was named East Coast Conference Coach of the Year. The honor came on Monday (Oct. 29) from the East Coast Conference office with five of Coach Nagel's players earning All-ECC accolades as well.
Nagel coached the Knights to a perfect 7-0 record in East Coast Conference play and the No. 1 overall seed in the ECC Tournament. In doing so, the 40-year veteran of the Flushing tennis courts guided Queens to its second consecutive East Coast Conference regular-season championship.
Auffarth and Rashad were the top doubles tandem for the Knights for much of the season, going 9-3 as a group in competitive action while also advancing to the ITA East Region semifinals of doubles play. Auffarth's doubles record for the year was 10-3 as she also teamed with Anica Knezevic for a win in the fall; Rashad went 5-3 in dual singles play at the top-flight of competition while Auffarth was 8-2 in No. 2 singles play for the squad.
Ostoja put forth a sensational year in her first season with the Knights. The junior transfer went 13-1 in singles play at the No. 3 flight, ending the fall on a seven-match winning streak. Her doubles partner, Brunetti, sported a 10-3 singles record on the season and the two were ITA East Region singles semifinalists as well as winning 10 of 13 doubles matches overall in the fall campaign.
Ortega Jover also ended the fall season on a seven-match singles winning streak, finishing 12-1 overall with an unblemished 9-0 mark in dual singles action. The senior also collected a 9-3 mark in doubles play with three different playing partners throughout the fall season.
