FLUSHING, N.Y. - The Queens College Women's Tennis team rolled to a comfortable 7-0 win over the Wildcats of Wilmington University. With the win, the Knights improved to 5-0 on the season, while the Wildcats moved to 3-3.
Queens raced out to a 1-0 lead by winning all three doubles in quick fashion. The one-doubles duo of Reehan Rashad and Luisa Auffarth made quick work of their opponents Laura Gil and Andrea Ribalta as they won 6-0. At second-doubles, Louisa Brunetti and Marisa Ostoja continued their good run with a 6-1 victory Begona Gomar and Anuskha Sathe. The third-doubles pair of Laura Ortega Jover and Ruth Artaza Martin dispatched their counterparts Tess Paya and Sabrina Blasi-Smith on a scoreline of 6-3.
At Singles, Queens continued their good run of the afternoon as fourth singles Jover defeated Paya 6-3, 6-4 to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. Auffarth extended the advantage further as she won at second-singles 6-3, 6-3 over Sathe. Playing her first match of the day, Anica Knezevic defeated her opposite Blasi-Smith 6-4, 6-1 at sixth-singles to give the Knights a 4-0 lead and the match. Shortly after, at fourth-singles, Ostoja defeated Bil 6-4, 6-3. The Knights were taken into tiebreaker sets at No. 1 and No. 6 singles as Rashad dropped her first set 6-7(3-7) before coming out on top to take the match 6-3, and 12-10 (tiebreaker mode) over Gomar. While at No. 6 singles, Martin completed the sweep by defeating Ribalta 6-4, 6-7, 10-1.
UP NEXT: After concluding the non-conference portion of the fall season on Friday, the Knights (3-0 ECC) step back into conference play as they welcome the Bears of NYIT (8-1, 3-0) on Saturday (Oct. 6) with first serve scheduled for 11 A.M.
