SPARKILL, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2018) - The Queens College women's tennis team was virtually unstoppable in picking up a 7-0 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Friday (Sept. 21) at the Riley Family Tennis Courts in Sparkill, N.Y. Queens improved to 3-0 in dual match-play so far this season and the Knights have won both matches in East Coast Conference competition thus far this season.
The Knights rolled through doubles play dropping just two games over the first three matches of the day. The top flight of Luisa Auffarth and Anica Knezevic claimed a 6-1 win versus STAC's top tandem of Katarina Lopez and Maya O'Brien while QC's second pairing of Louisa Brunetti and Marisa Ostoja won a 6-1 decision against Chiara Dittrich and Amelie Meyers. Laura Ortega Jover and Ruth Artaza Martin were unbeatable in the third-doubles match, winning a 6-0 shutout versus Anna Ristova and Ulyana Kitcmanuk.
In singles play, the good times continued to roll as the Knights did not drop a set against the Spartans. Auffarth dispatched of Lopez in the top-flight with a 6-0, 6-2 victory and Ostoja bettered that in the second singles match by taking down Ristova in a 6-1, 6-0 win. Ortega Jover went 6-1, 6-0 over Dittrich at third-singles while Artaza Martin gutted out a 6-4, 6-4 victory on Meyers in the No. 4 flight. The Knights won out when Araceli Bel Aleixendri sent off O'Brien (6-1, 6-0) at fifth-singles as Line Sorsdahl Aasen turned Kitcmanuk away at sixth-singles (6-0, 6-2).
Queens will return to the QC Tennis Center on Friday (Sept. 28) for an ECC Championship re-match with NYIT at 12 p.m.
