FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 6, 2018) - In a battle of the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the East Region rankings of NCAA women's tennis, the Queens College Knights were defeated by Goldey-Beacom in a 5-4 see-saw battle at the QC Tennis Center.

Goldey-Beacom (15-1) took two of three doubles matches from Queens (10-3) with the wins coming at No. 1 and No. 2 tandems for the Lightning. This included a 9-8 win at the top pairing by Lotte Lesscher y Post and Catarina Zheng over QC's Reehan Rashad and Laura Ortega Jover; Araceli Bel Aleixendri and Line Sorsdahl Aasen claimed an 8-1 win at third-doubles for the Knights.

In singles play, the Knights and Lightning evenly split the six pairings with each side winning three matches. Goldey-Beacom's wins came at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 singles while the Knights claimed the other three. Bel Aleixendri was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at fifth singles and Louisa Brunetti claimed a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 3 flight of singles play. Ruth Artaza Martin had a 6-2, 6-1 victory at sixth singles but it would prove to not be enough in the defeat. The final blow came at top singles as Lesscher y Post won a three-set battle against Reehan Rashad to clinch the victory for Goldey-Beacom---the first win for the Lightning after ten straight defeats to the Knights.

Queens will look to bounce back with a win on Wednesday (Apr. 11) at Saint Peter's in Jersey City when the match kicks off at 3 p.m.
