Women's Tennis Opens Spring Play Friday, Will Face Stiff Division I Competition in April

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Mar. 29, 2018) - The Queens College women's tennis team---the top-ranked team in the East Regional rankings of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA)---will begin its hopeful march to the NCAA Tournament on Friday (Mar. 30) with a contest against LIU Brooklyn at the QC Tennis Center.

In pursuit of the program's 18th consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament, the Knights moved up a place in the latest ITA National Poll to No. 39 overall after being ranked No. 40 following a 10-1 fall campaign that culminated in an ECC Championship runner-up performance. The Knights will have several daunting tasks on the docket in the spring in order to better acquit themselves for the rigors of the national stage. Following Friday's battle with the Blackbirds, Queens will play host to East Region #2 Goldey-Beacom; matches with Stony Brook, Concordia (N.Y.), Saint Peter's, Fordham and Adelphi are also on the docket as is a tennis doubleheader against Salem International on Apr. 18.

Along with the team's total success, individual players have shined for the Knights as well. Reehan Rashad is currently the No. 52-ranked singles player in all of Division II, representing the Knights in the fall with a 10-2 overall mark and a perfect 7-0 stint in ECC singles play.

The action starts up all over again tomorrow as the Knights host a 9-3 LIU Brooklyn team coming off of a win over Seton Hall most recently back on Mar. 24. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
