FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – The Queens College women's tennis team competed at the first day of the ITA East Regional Championships on Friday. Senior Emy Alplund and sophomore Louisa Brunetti were the lone Knights to advance on day one.
The 10th-seeded doubles duo of Alplund and Brunetti, who are unbeaten as a doubles team thus far on the year, defeated their counterparts from Chestnut Hill College, 8-2, to move on in the doubles main draw.
Sophomore Araceli Bel Aleixendri earned an 8-2 singles win in the first round before bowing out in round two. Junior Line Sorsdahl Aasen and sophomore Ruth Artaza Martin also competed on Friday, but came up short.
The Knights already had four singles players locked in to Saturday's singles main draw competition, as they earned first-round byes. Third-seeded Reehan Rashad, fifth-seeded Laura Ortega Jover, 14th-seeded Brunetti, and Alplund will all compete in the singles main draw on day two. In doubles, Alplund and Brunetti will join the duo of Rashad and Ortega Jover, who are seeded third and earned a first-round bye, in the second round of the doubles main draw.
