Queens Tennis Teams Recognized with ITA Academic Awards

TEMPE, Ariz. – Seven Queens College tennis student-athletes were recognized with academic awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this week. Four members of the Queens women's tennis team and three members of the men's tennis team picked up Scholar-Athlete honors. In addition, the Knights' women's tennis team was named an All-Academic Team.

Line Sorsdahl Aasen, Angelika Sobiecka, Ruth Artaza Martin and Araceli Bel Aleixendri of the women's tennis team all landed ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades. Meanwhile, Silver Knight Award winner Lucas Martinez joined Camilo Arias and ECC Player of the Year and two-time ECC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Sharvill Nawghre as ITA Scholar-Athlete honorees from the men's tennis team. In order to achieve ITA Scholar-Athlete status, each student-athlete maintained a GPA of at least 3.50 for the 2016-17 academic year.

The Queens women's tennis squad also garnered the ITA All-Academic Team award, which is given to programs that post a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or higher during the academic year.
