FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Queens College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 non-conference win over Chestnut Hill College on Saturday from the QC Tennis Center. Queens improves to 11-2 overall and 2-0 this spring.
The Knights lost only three games in total over their three doubles victories, while Queens took all six singles matches as well, including a pair of 6-0, 6-0 shutouts.
Angelika Sobiecka and Emy Alplund teamed up for an 8-2 victory at top doubles. Reehan Rashad and Laura Ortega Jover tallied an 8-1 win at No. 2, while Line Sorsdahl Aasen and Araceli Bel Aleixendri partnered for an 8-0 shutout win at third doubles.
Rashad improved to 4-0 in singles and doubles play, as she recorded a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Ortega Jover worked three sets to win at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Sobiecka added a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the third spot, while Alplund garnered a 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth singles. Ruth Artaza Martin and Darya Kolesnichenko each recorded 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins in the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
Queens will host Adelphi University, the Northeast-10 Conference Champions, on Friday, April 7 for a big regional match at 11 a.m.
