Women's Tennis ranked first in the East

The Queens College Knights Women's Tennis Team, fresh off of an undefeated fall season and an East Coast Conference Championship, has been ranked first in the East Region by the governing body of collegiate tennis, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

QC's #1 ranking marks the first time the program has ever been ranked that high. The team is also ranked 26th overall in Division II.

In addition to the team's lofty standing, four players were ranked amoung the top ten in singles in the East. Laura Mocodeanu, the 2009 ECC Player of the Year, was ranked fourth while first team all-star Somadi Druker was fifth, 2009 ECC Rookie of the Year Erika Goldsmith was sixth and first team all-star Maria Mendes was tenth.

The Knights also had two of their doubles teams ranked in the top five. QC's top tandem of Druker and Goldsmith were unbeaten in 13 matches, earning the top spot in the East Region and a ranking of 11th nationally.  Additionally, Mocodeanu combined with Kirby Reiss to earn the fifth spot in the regional rankings.
