Mocodeanu named Player of the Year, Goldsmith top rookie

The Queens College duo of Laura Mocodeanu and Erika Goldsmith were chosen as the East Coast Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively, for the 2009 season.  Alan Nagel was also named Coach of the Year while four other Knights earned all-conference honors.

Mocodeanu, the pre-season pick for Player of the Year as well, went 9-3 in singles and 10-3 in doubles. Her singles record includes matches against Division I opponents at the NJIT Tournament. In conference matches she posted a mark of 3-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles and at the ITA Regional Tournament, Mocodeanu advanced to the semifinals of the women's A singles, winning three straight matches which included a 6-2, 6-7 (10-6) victory over the No. 3 seeded Plevako from Concordia.  She teamed up with Kirby Reiss in the women's A doubles bracket and the duo made their way to the semifinals before falling to the eventual champions.

Goldsmith won four ECC Rookie of the Week and one Player of the Week awards on her way to being named the conference's top Rookie. Erika was 13-1 at the number two and number three positions in singles and 14-1 in doubles. She defeated Erin McCarthy of Marist, 8-2, to win the NJIT Division I "B" Singles Championship in September and also teammed with Somadi Drucker to win that tournament's "A" doubles title.

Additionally, longtime Knights' head coach Alan Nagel was selected as ECC Coach of the Year by his peers. Nagel led QC to a spotless 9-0 record and the regular season conference championship.

Mocodeanu and Goldsmith are joined by teammates Somadi Druker and Maria Mendes on the all-ECC first team. Taylor Barber and Kirby Reiss were named to the second team.
