Lady Knights dominate the NJIT Division I Tennis Tournament

The Queens College Women’s Tennis team has won seven out of the last eight conference championships and has been invited to the NCAA tournament for a record 9 straight years, but has never won a Division I championship until now.

Somadi Druker paired with Erika Goldsmith to win the NJIT Tournament Flight "A" Doubles Title while Taylor Barber and Daniela Celi also combined to with the Flight "B" championship. And to top things off, Goldsmith captured the Flight "B" singles championship.

The duo defeated the teams of McCarthy / Eduarda of Marist 6-3 in the first round, Johnson / Lorentz of Manhattan 6-3 and Gilanchi / Clifton of Hofstra 6-4 to reach the finals. Drucker and Goldsmith then defeated Hofstra's other duo of Sailor / Tsay to capture the crown.

Goldsmith, a freshman out of Edison, New Jersey. beat Erin McCarthy, who played first singles at Marist College last season, 8-2, to capture the "B" singles title. Celi and Barber beat Christine Krasinski and Stephanie Tsao of Manhattan 6-3 for the "B" doubles championship.

Other noteworthy performances were turned in by Druker, Laura Mocodeanu, Kirby Reiss, Maria Mendes and Maria Perevezentseva. In addition to her doubles crown, Drucker made it as far as the semifinals of the Flight "A" singles while Mendes advanced to the "B" Flight consolation final and Perevezentseva lost in the "D" singles final. Finally, the duo of Mocodeanu and Reiss made it as far as the consolation final of the "A" doubles before losing to Marist.
