FLUSHING, N.Y. (Nov. 19, 2018) - Despite having six first-place finishes on Monday (Nov. 19) in its dual meet with Hunter College, the Queens College swimming and diving team lost out on secondary points and fell to the visiting Hawks by a count of 102-98 at the Queens College Aquatics Center.
Jennifer Arana-Perez won two individual events---the 50-yard freestyle (26.74s) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.68)---and was also part of the Knights' winning 400-free relay team along with Amanda Giordano, Megan Dawes and Chelsey Espinosa, a crew that finished the final event in a time of 4:06.13. Dawes won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.58 with the Knights picking up wins in the 200-free by Gabriela Almeida (2:10.93) and in the 200-yard individual medley by Anna Lee in a time of 2:29.44.
Dawes finished in second place in the 1000-free in a time of 12:03.46 as Almeida took second in the 100-fly (1:05.03) and the 500-free (6:02.63). Earning runner-up finishes as well for the Knights, Giordano placed second in the 200-IM (2:36.09) as Espinosa took second in the 100-free (1:01.40). Lee and Espinosa finished second and third in the 100-yard breast stroke in respective times of 1:14.40 and 1:19.83 and Kelly Coronado claimed a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:24.61.
The Knights are back in the pool on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Ranger Invitational on the campus of Drew University in Madison, N.J.
