Records Keep Falling for Swimming Team at Metro Conference Championships

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Feb. 18, 2018) – The Queens College swimming team smashed another record at the Metropolitan Conference Championship meet on Sunday (Feb. 18) at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.

The Knights' 400-yard free relay squad of Gabriela Almeida, Jennifer Chung, Megan Dawes and Jennifer Arana-Perez swam a time of 3:44.16 in the 'A' final to finish seventh overall and break a 17-year school record in that event for Queens. Dawes and Almeida were also impressive in the 1650-free, with respective 14th (19:13.00) and 15th (19:18.81) place finishes. Meanwhile, Anna Lee took a third-place finish in the 'C' final of the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:32.78. Arana scored a fifth-place finish in the 'A' final of the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.74 and Katie Waszkiewicz grabbed a runner-up spot in the 'C' final of the 200-fly (2:24.02).

The Knights earned an eighth-place finish overall in the women's championship standings. QC took second-place among all Division II schools at the meet and earned the Metropolitan Swimming and Diving Conference 2018 Division II Women's Runner Up Award, as well.
