New School Record Sets Tempo for Swimming and Diving at Day One of Metropolitan  Championships

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Feb. 16, 2018) – A school-record was set by the Queens College women's swimming team on Friday (Feb. 16) as the Knights competed in Day One of the Metropolitan Conference Championships at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J.

Megan Dawes, Anna Lee, Gabriela Almeida and Jennifer Arana-Perez set a QC record with a time of 4:07.28 in the 400-yard medley relay finals after qualifying in seventh place in preliminaries. The relay group advanced to the 'A' final where their time had them finish eighth overall.

Meanwhile, the 200-free relay group of Chelsy Espinosa, Amanda Giordano, Jennifer Chung and Nicole Weinsheimer finished in third in the 'B' final and 11th overall with a time of 1:46.37. The foursome qualified for the 'B' final race after a ninth-place time of 1:44.98 was recorded in preliminaries earlier in the day. Almeida and Dawes competed in the 500-free 'C' final and placed third and fourth (19th and 20th overall) with times of 5:30.82 and 5:30.91, respectively.

In the men's competition, senior Thomas Soregaroli swam a 50-free time of 24.45 seconds to lead the efforts for the Knights in that event.

The Knights will continue to compete in the three-day Metro Conference Championship meet on Saturday (Feb. 17) with the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard IM and 100-yard butterfly races among the events taking place at Rutgers.
