BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Oct. 20, 2018) - The Queens College women's soccer team yielded a seventh-minute marker as the Knights fell behind and could not come back in a 3-1 loss on Saturday (Oct. 20) to the University of Bridgeport at Knights Field.
Queens (2-9-3, 1-5-2 ECC) nearly got on the board in the opening ninety seconds as Guro Eriksen attempted the first shot on goal that was saved by UB (11-3-1, 7-1 ECC) goalie Jennifer Wendelius. The Purple Knights did strike first, however, as Anisha Hill put home a rebound following a corner kick to give the hosts the 1-0 edge. Bridgeport tested QC goalie Nikoletta Pravata six more times in the first half, but the sophomore goalie was up to the task in keeping the deficit to just one goal. In the second half, UB claimed its insurance marker as Maegen Doyle chipped a pass from Sara Berglund over the head of Pravata for her 17th goal of the season. Andrea Basilicato would fire home a goal mere seconds later to give Bridgeport a three-goal lead and Queens only mustered one goal in the 76th minute as Alexis Quealy buried a pass from Agnes Stanton to get the Knights on the board.
Quealy had four shots to lead the way for Queens, as the Knights totaled nine shots overall. Bridgeport outshot QC by a 21-9 margin with Pravata stopping ten shots on net in the losing effort.
Queens will face Molloy on Wednesday (Oct. 24) at 4 p.m. in the Knights' final East Coast Conference game of the 2018 season.
