Women's Soccer Yields First-Minute Marker in 3-0 Loss at Daemen Wednesday
AMHERST, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2018) - The Queens College women's soccer team allowed a goal in the first thirty-seven seconds of play as Daemen College scored three times in the first half on its way to a 3-0 win over the Knights on Wednesday (Oct. 10).
Specifically, Daemen (6-6, 4-3 ECC) forward Jamie Boyar notched the first-half hat trick for the Wildcats on three assists from Celia de Pablo Esteban and one from Katja Meyer against Queens (2-8-1, 1-4-1) in the opening frame of play. Boyar---who came into the game tied for the conference lead in goals and points---received a through ball from de Pablo Esteban on a breakaway to beat QC keeper Shenae Kreps and give the hosts the early edge. Boyar scored on another through ball in the 17th minute and completed her hat trick two minutes later on another feed from de Pablo Esteban.
The Knights were outshot in the contest by a 17-11 margin, and Boyar had ten of Daemen's attempts on net with eight on target. Nicole Abalco led Queens in terms of shooting with three shots in total and two targeted at Wildcats goalie Maddie Flores. Flores made six saves to preserve a clean sheet, while Kreps had two saves in the first half of action. Nikoletta Pravata was summoned to defend the net in the second half, and the sophomore stopped all four shots that headed her way.
The Knights will pick up play on Saturday (Oct. 13) in a non-conference battle at New Haven with kick-off set for 3 p.m.
