FLUSHING, N.Y. – Despite outshooting their opponents, the Queens College Women's Soccer team was unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to Roberts Wesleyan College in East Coast Conference play. With the loss, the Knights moved to 2-8-1 overall, 1-4-1 in conference play, while the Redhawks improved to 3-6-2 overall, 2-4 in conference action.
In the early goings of the game, sophomore defender Shannon Gibbons looked to give the Knights a 1-0 lead but was denied by Redhawks goalie Kelsey Brinkel. In the 18th minute, Redhawks Israela Groves threatened twice but was turned away each time. While Queens threaten in the first half however they were unable to find the back of the net each time. Both teams went into the half tied 0-0 with the Knights holding a 4-3 shot advantage.
In the 57th minute, the Redhawks got on board as they were awarded a penalty kick as Groves successfully put her team ahead 1-0. Several minutes later, following a misplay by Knights freshmen goalie Shenae Kreps, Groves delivered an assist to teammate Taylor Rutland who found the back of the net to give the Redhawks a 2-0 lead and game. The Knights held the advantage in shots (10-5) and corner kicks (2-1).
UP NEXT: The Knights continue conference play on Wednesday (Oct. 10) as they head to Amherst, NY with a date against the Wildcats of Daemen College (5-6 overall, 3-3 ECC) with kickoff slated for 1 PM.
