WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Aug. 24, 2018) – The Queens College women's soccer team was selected to be a middle-of-the-pack squad by the East Coast Conference coaches as the Knights were listed sixth in the ECC Preseason poll.
Queens earned 49 points from the coaches after winning five games last season. The Knights return a strong scoring contingent including Guro Noren Eriksen but will have to look to new players in new roles to replace leading forward Erin Vernillo and goalkeeper Nicole Cranny.
Mercy, last year's NCAA Tournament Cinderella story, eked out the top spot in the preseason ledger by one first-place vote and one total point over LIU Post. The Mavericks were the surprise Final Four team in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, but their repeat bid hinges on the shoulders of new Head Coach Jim O'Brien after the departure of Jonathan Feinstein to Division I Loyola Marymount University. Bridgeport and Molloy rank third and fourth respectively, with the Purple Knights claiming a first-place vote. NYIT is in fifth followed by QC, Daemen, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Roberts Wesleyan and newcomer Lincoln (Pa.) with the Lions entering their first season as associate member of the conference in women's soccer.
Queens College will open the 2018-19 athletic calendar year on Aug. 30 with a 3 p.m. contest in Flushing against Saint Rose.
