WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – Sophomore Guro Eriksen and senior Nicole Cranny of the Queens College women's soccer team were recognized with player of the week accolades from the East Coast Conference (ECC) on Monday. Eriksen was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week, while Cranny earned ECC Defensive Player of the Week.
Queens posted back-to-back ECC wins last week, putting together a perfect 2-0 week. The Knights scored four goals in the second half to defeat Daemen College on Wednesday, 4-0, before using overtime to take down NYIT on the road, 1-0, on Saturday.
Eriksen scored the game-winning goal in both of the Knights' victories on the week. She scored the first of four goals in a home win over Daemen on Wednesday with a blast to the top left corner in the 59th minute on a feed from senior Haley Gibbons. In the road win at NYIT on Saturday, senior Courtney Locurcio sent a corner kick to Eriksen, who found the game-winning goal on a header just seconds into overtime.
Cranny didn't give up a single goal over 173:36 of action, picking up a pair of wins in goal for the Knights. She logged 82:55 shutout minutes with four saves in the home drubbing of Daemen on Wednesday before posting her second shutout of the year in Saturday's 1-0 road win at NYIT, making five saves. Cranny made nine saves for the week and notched her third and fourth wins of the season in goal.
It was the first career ECC weekly honor for Eriksen, who leads the Knights in goals (7) and points (15). As for Cranny, it was her second career ECC weekly accolade and first of the season. Cranny is fifth in the ECC with 62 saves on the year and owns a .713 save percentage this season.
Eriksen, Cranny and the Knights will travel to Dominican (N.Y.) on Tuesday before hosting Goldey-Beacom College for Senior Day on Friday.
