Freshmen shine in Playoff Clinching Senior Day win

Knights' freshmen accounted for four goals in a 5-2 Senior Day win over NYIT on Saturday afternoon. The win clinched QC's first conference playoff spot in the 11 years of the program's existence.

The day began with the introduction of the seniors to the home crowd by head coach Carl Christian. Chenelle Geoffroy, Christina Cascio, Melissa Cuartas, Kristina Sarceno and Jenna Peveraro were all called up to the scorer's table and presented with flowers and gifts in recognition of their contributions to the Queens College Women's Soccer program.

Once the game commenced the underclassmen stole the show. A slight hiccup occured 21:21 into the contest when Megan Emanuelo of Tech converted on a penalty kick to give her team a 1-0 lead. This goal was the first surrendered by Queens College in 300:05. NYIT's lead lasted exactly seven minutes and 34 seconds at which time freshman Brittany Silipo evened the score with her first of the day. Andrea Slavin dribbled along the end line to the left of the net, threaded the needle to Silipo and she put a left footed volley into the top left corner of the net for the tying goal.

QC struck again quickly, taking the lead at the 31:41 mark on a blast from 30 yards out by junior Kirri Bolton, and increasing their lead to two goals on Silipo's second of the afternoon at 38:48.

Tech cut QC's margin in half 4:03 after the break when Taylor Jensen took Ally Halbig's cross and beat Breakey but Silipo completed her hat trick, blasting home the rebound of a Slavin shot in the 61st minute to make it 4-2 QC.

Freshman Sarah Boucher rounded out the scoring in the 81st minute off of an assist from Laura D'Amore to cement the win and complete QC's home slate with a spotless 8-0 record.
