Bridgeport beats QC on golden goal

Erin Svavarsdottir of Bridgeport scored 7:53 into the first overtime to give her team a 2-1 win over Queens College on Wednesday evening in Connecticut. The loss snapped the Knights four game win streak.

The two teams looked as if they were going to head into the intermission in a scoreless tie until Asia Pulse took a cross from Svavarsdottir and headed it past Allison Breakey to give UB a 1-0 lead with 1:32 left in the first half. However, it didn't take long for the Knights to respond. Laura D'Amore scored her fourth of the season at 50:01 off of an assist from Chenelle Geoffroy to even the score at one.

In the first overtime Sofia Hoflin moved the ball to the left flank and Svavarsdottir found the back of the net for the golden goal. The win enabled Bridgeport to remain unbeaten in 2009 with a record of 9-0-3 overall and a conference mark of 2-0. The loss drops QC to 6-4-1 and 1-2.
