Top Ranked C.W. Post nips QC, 3-2

The Lady Knights were edged by C.W. Post, 3-2, in East Coast Conference action on Wednesday in Flushing. Post began the week as the top ranked team in the East Region.
Andrea Slavin scored an unassisted goal at the 14:09 mark to give QC the early lead. Slavin made an nice individual play to make room for herself at the top of the box and then put a shot into the lower left hand corner of the cage for the game's opening marker. C.W. Post tied the match in the 28th minute on a goal credited to Jackie Sousa when her corner kick deflected past Lady Knights' goalkeeper Crystal Butler off of teammate Slavin.
The teams battled to a scoreless opening 16 minutes of the second half until Maria Sonnerborg made good on a penalty kick to give Post a 2-1 lead. Melissa Pascarella provided some insurance for the Pioneers when she scored off of a rebound at 78:52. That goal turned into the game winner when Katherine Colon took a cross from Caitlin Gracia and put a shot past Allie Weiser with 1:21 remaining to pull QC within a goal. Weiser stopped a last second header by Laura D'Amore to preserve the victory for C.W. Post.
With the win Post improves to 14-1-1 overall and a perfect 7-0 in ECC play while Queens College drops to 9-5 and 2-4, respectively.
