Bridgeport wins the battle of the Knights, 2-1

The Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport defeated the Queens College Lady Knights, 2-1, in an ECC contest played on a clear and mild Saturday afternoon in Flushing, New York. All three goals were scored in the second half.
There was no territorial advantage for either side in an evenly played and scoreless first half. UB goalkeeper Elina Yletyinen made three saves while Crystal Butler turned aside two shots on goal to keep the game a 0-0. The best scoring chance of the first 45 minutes belonged to Bridgeport's Sofia Hoflin, who had a clear path to the cage but pushed her shot wide left 16 minutes in.
The two clubs traded early scoring opportunittes to kick off the second half to no avail. The first chance came to Queens College when Andrea Slavin hit Melissa Cuartas with a pass but Cuartas' shot was turned away by Yletyinen at 47:39. Butler returned the favor whe she stopped UB's Linda Velay on a good scoring try at 48:58.
Bridgeport finally broke through with a pair of goals 2:42 apart. Cari Harris scored the first goal of the day at 68:50 when she headed in a corner from Katie Stanley. Velaj followed by putting a right footer into the lower left hand corner off of another assist from Stanley to give UB a two goal bulge. Cuartas cut that lead in half when she took a pass from defender Jenna Pevarro and scored from the right side to make it a 2-1 game.
The loss drops the Lady Knights to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in ECC play while UB improves to 11-2-1 and 3-1.
