Slavin scores twice in 3-1 win over Caldwell

Andrea Slavin scored two goals to lead the Lady Knights to a 3-1 win over Caldwell College on Wednesday afternoon at Queens College. This marked the second consecutive two goal game for the sophomore forward from Floral Park.
QC surrendered the first goal despite starting the match with a decided edge in play. Samantha Rinks of Caldwell gave her team the lead in the ninth minute when she headed a corner kick from Kristee Paknis past Lady Knights' goalkeeper Crystal Butler. Their lead was short lived because less than three minutes later Melissa Cuartas beat a Caldwell defender at the top of the box, pushed a pass to Slavin, who deposited the ball into the lower left corner to even the score at one. That's the way the first half would end although QC outshot their opponents 11-3.
Freshman Katherine Colon picked a good time to record her first collegiate goal, scoring off of a loose ball in front to put the Lady Knights ahead, 2-1, in the 64th minute. Slavin provided some insurance five minutes later, redirecting a cross from Melissa Cuartas in for her second marker of the contest.
The victory was the third straight for Queens College, who now stand at 3-1 for the season. Caldwell College fell to 0-6 with the loss.
