Women's Lacrosse Honors Seniors, Loses to Stonehill Sunday in Season Finale

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2018) - The Queens College women's lacrosse team paid homage to its senior members on Sunday (Apr. 29) but ultimately dropped a 19-6 decision to Stonehill College in the season finale for the Knights.

Queens finishes the year 5-11 overall while Stonehill improved to 8-9 with the win. Sarah Koehler and Margaret Iavarone both scored a pair of goals for the Knights in the defeat while seniors Nicole Moniello and Mary Pat Gibble each tallied a point in the effort. Moniello had a goal and Gibble assisted on Iavarone's second tally of the game; Patriece Ausili also notched a goal.

Rebecca Gibble and Lauren Gentile added assists to bolster the scoring for the Knights, while Jessica Serpe ended her freshman campaign with a nine-save performance in cage. Ausili led the way with five draw control wins and three ground balls while senior Melanie Kahn added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Fellow senior Melissa Fumano added a ground ball and a CTO in her finale performance.

Queens fell behind 3-0 in the first three minutes of play as Stonehill's Shannon Hughes scored two of her game-high four goals in that span; the Knights trailed 5-1 after the first ten minutes with Moniello's goal being the only offense for QC to that point. The Skyhawks ended the first half up 13-4 and estabished a ten-goal lead on a free-position marker by Linna Jalinskas---one of her three tallies---early in the second half.
