Women's Lacrosse Stifled by Jefferson in 17-6 Saturday Defeat

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Mar. 31, 2018) - Sarah Koehler recorded her fourth hat trick of the season for the Queens College Women's Lacrosse Team, but the Knights could not get much else going offensively in a 17-6 defeat at the hands of the Jefferson University Rams on Saturday (Mar. 31).

The Knights (4-4) yielded the game's first goal just 67 seconds in as Jefferson (2-5) took an early 1-0 lead on an unassisted marker by Sarah von Lange. The Rams' Laura Dunne scored the next two goals of the game before Koehler netted her first of the contest with just under ten minutes played in the first half. QC would not get closer than the 3-1 margin as Jefferson scored the next six goals to run up a 9-1 lead. Koehler and Mary Pat Gibble tallied goals for the Knights to close out the first half with the game favoring the hosts by a 9-3 score.

Jefferson opened the second half with a goal by Ashley Lamey at the 26:49 mark of the frame; thirty-two seconds later, Kathryn Avanzato netted another marker to put the Rams ahead by an 11-3 score. Queens got within seven goals at 12-5 thanks to back-to-back tallies by Lauren Gentile and Patriece Ausili but the Rams added five of the next six goals to close out the contest.

Koehler added four draw control wins to her three goals as Ausili led the squad with five draw controls. Lauren Hilke and Rebecca Gibble collected three ground balls each while Nicole Cutrone led the defensive effort with two caused turnovers. Jessica Serpe made five saves in cage for the Knights in the loss.

Queens returns to action on Wednesday (Apr. 4) when the Knights host Stonehill College at 3:30 p.m.
