Women's Lacrosse Buzzes Early But Falls in 17-2 Loss to Molloy Tuesday

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 27, 2018) – The Queens College women's lacrosse team struck first Tuesday evening (Mar. 27) but the Knights could not keep momentum on their side and suffered a 1723 defeat to ECC foe Molloy at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex.

Queens (4-2, 0-1 ECC) won the opening draw and scored the first goal of the game just 56 seconds in as Patriece Ausili beat Molloy (7-4, 3-1 ECC) goalie Alexandra Long to put the Knights in front. The Lions would not score the equalizer until almost a third of the way through the first half when Casie Caiazza snuck a bounce shot past QC keeper Jessica Serpe; the Knights' defense held strong until the midway point of the opening frame, frustrating Molloy until the hosts took control as Nora Miller fed Jessica Markowitz for the go-ahead marker with fourteen-and-a-half minutes remaining in the frame. Another Caiazza goal gave Molloy a two-goal edge but Lauren Gentile beat Long on a pass from Sarah Koehler to cut the deficit to a goal at 3-2 with eleven minutes left in the first half. Unfortunately, the hosts did not yield another goal and went on a run that ultimately brought the Lions to victory. Molloy scored six straight to end the first half (including four in the final five minutes) and had eight goals in the second half while keeping the Knights off the board.

Melanie Kahn and Rebecca Gibble highlighted the defensive effort among field players for the Knights with four ground balls apiece while Ausili had two draw controls and two caused turnovers for QC as well. Nicole Cutrone added two CTOs and Serpe stopped 13 shots on the evening.

Queens will have a quick turnaround to play Mercy on Wednesday (Mar. 28) up in Dobbs Ferry, with the opening draw in the East Coast Conference tilt set for 3 p.m.
