LYNDHURST, N.J. (Mar. 1, 2018) - Patriece Ausili and Margaret Iavarone each scored four goals and Mary Pat Gibble totaled a game-high eight points as the Queens College women's lacrosse team utilized a 15-goal first half to overwhelm Felician by a 20-3 final score on Thursday (Mar. 1).
Queens won its 2018 season debut after getting off to a roaring start with Ausili beating Golden Falcons goalie Qamar Smith on a free-position shot in the game's first sixteen seconds. The Knights continued their impressive offensive onslaught, grabbing a 10-0 lead before the midway point of the first half and instituting running time with around 16:30 to go in the opening period on Ausili's second goal of the half. Gibble and her sister Rebecca Gibble each scored two goals in the early ten-goal spurt as did Margaret Iavarone and Nicole Moniello. Lauren Gentile had two goals in the first half while Lauren Hilke notched her first tally of the season as well; Ausili and Iavarone netted their hat trick goals as QC led 15-0 at the end of one half.
Felician got on the board in the second half with a marker by Christianna Louzan in the first five minutes of play but Melanie Kahn had her first goal of the season a short time later. Moniello, Iavarone, Gibble and Ausili all scored a goal in the final twenty minutes of play to push the Knights to a 20-goal tally for the first time since Apr. 12, 2012 when QC struck for 21 goals against Southern Connecticut State in a 15-goal win over the Owls.
Ausili and Iavarone each had five-point performances for Queens and Gibble's eight points came on three goals and five assists. Rebecca Gibble had two goals in her collegiate debut as Moniello posted a six-point day with three assists to go along with three goals. Lauren Gentile added five points (2 G, 3 A) and freshman goalie Jessica Serpe made five saves to grab her first career victory.
The Knights return home to face American International on Tuesday (Mar. 6) at 3:30 p.m. at the QC Lacrosse Field.
