OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Queens College women's lacrosse team's bid for three straight wins was shut down by the 12th-ranked Bears of NYIT, 20-0, on the road in an East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup on Wednesday.
The setback puts Queens at 3-11 overall, 1-6 in the conference and 1-7 on the road. Meanwhile, NYIT improves to 15-1 and 7-0 in the ECC. The Bears have won 11 games in a row.
NYIT came out firing and jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the game's first 10 minutes. The Bears kept at it early, putting up 17 goals in the first half to enter the break with a 17-0 lead before adding three more in the second half. Karie Znaniecki led the Bears with four goals and five assists.
The Knights were outshot 29-1, while committing 20 turnovers. Sophomore Patriece Ausili had four draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls, while senior goalie Basma Attieh made six saves and picked up two ground balls.
Queens will conclude its season on Saturday, April 29, when the Knights host St. Thomas Aquinas College at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
