QC Women's Basketball to Take On Strong Competition in 2018-19 Season

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 19, 2018) – A regional powerhouse with a nationally recognized name and a strong contingent of conference opponents headline the 2018-19 schedule for the Queens College women's basketball team.

The Knights, however, will bring their own firepower to the campaign with Beth Bonin, a First-Team All-ECC and Second Team All-Met selection from one year ago. Bonin, who was named a Division II Women's Basketball Bulletin All-America Honorable Mention earlier this month, leads a strong group of veteran guards as well as talented newcomers that finished last season with nine conference victories and the No. 5 seed in the East Coast Conference postseason tournament.

The season begins on Nov. 10 and 11 as the Knights will play in the ECC/CACC Challenge at Molloy in Rockville Centre. Queens will face off with Chestnut Hill and Jefferson, the same teams that the Knights played a season ago down in Philadelphia to begin the year. Following that, QC contests its home opener on Nov. 17. welcoming in Hall of Fame head coach Barbara Stevens and the Bentley University Falcons for a 3 p.m. Saturday affair. Following a midweek game at Dominican (N.Y.) on Nov. 20, the Knights will host a Thanksgiving Sunday (Nov. 25) matinee against Southern Connecticut State.

Queens will travel to Concordia (N.Y.) for a Friday night contest on Nov. 30 before the team opens East Coast Conference play on Dec. 5 in Old Westbury at NYIT. The Knights then welcome LIU Post to Fitzgerald Gymnasium on Dec. 8 after which the team travels to Mercy on Dec. 12 for QC's first basketball contest at the newly-christened Victory Gymnasium in Dobbs Ferry. Queens ends the 2018 calendar year with back-to-back home contests versus Bridgeport (Dec. 15) and American International (Dec. 19).

The 2019 portion of the season kicks off with Queens playing at Southern New Hampshire on Jan. 6 to open a four-game road trip that includes battles in conference with Roberts Wesleyan (Jan. 11), Daemen (Jan. 13) and  Saint Thomas Aquinas (Jan. 16). The Knights return home on Jan. 19 to host District of Columbia before heading to Molloy on Jan. 23; the team closes out the month at home versus NYIT (Jan. 30).

Eight games litter the final month of February (and first weekend of March) for the Knights, beginning with a Groundhog Day matinee at LIU Post on Feb. 2. Roberts Wesleyan (Feb. 8), Daemen (Feb. 10) and Mercy (Feb. 13) all pay visits to Flushing afterwards as the Knights book-end the season with road games at Bridgeport (Feb. 16) and District of Columbia (Mar. 2). Between the bouts with the Purple Knights and the Firebirds, however, are two contests with Molloy on Feb. 20 and Saint Thomas Aquinas on Feb. 27 for the team's Senior Day ceremonies.
