NEW YORK, N.Y. (Apr. 19, 2018) - Queens College sophomore guard Beth Bonin of the women's basketball team captured All-Met Second Team Honors on Thursday (Apr. 19) as released by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.
Bonin's selection caps off what was a truly spectacular year for the second-year player out of Cicero, N.Y. The sophomore was the team's leader on the court, a floor general who played in nearly 1,000 total minutes and averaged an even sixteen points per game while steering the Knights to the fifth overall seed in the 2017-18 East Coast Conference Tournament. Bonin made 64 threes, which was third-most in the ECC and 149 field goals (sixth-most) and her 432 total points were also sixth-most in the East Coast Conference. The sophomore poured in ten or more points in 23 games with a career-high 27 points coming against Daemen on Feb. 18 that immediately preceded her two 24-point performances. Additionally, she pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds versus Mercy on Jan. 10 before grabbing 11 rebounds and hitting a buzzer-beating three-pointer to win a 62-59 thriller at Bridgeport on Jan. 13.
Bonin's play was more than just scoring the basketball, though. The All-ECC First Team honoree was was a one-time Player of the Week and a four-time Weekly Honor Roll selection while also earning considerable praise from the MBWA as evidenced by her earning MBWA Weekly Honorable Mention accolades on Jan. 23. She finished the year with 85 assists---which ranked seventh in the ECC statistical ledger---and attributed 4.4 rebounds per contest for the Knights as well. Earning a spot on the All-Met Second Team earned Bonin a spot at the prestigious NIT/MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner in Tarrytown on Apr. 25, as former teammate Madison Rowland experienced just one year ago as the D2 All-Met Player of the Year.
