WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (Dec. 18, 2017) - For the Queens College women's basketball team, Saturday's win over Franklin Pierce was a positive step as the Knights moved to 5-4 heading into the Christmas break. On Monday (Dec. 18), the East Coast Conference rewarded the Knights with two early holiday gifts: Beth Bonin and Taliyah Hopkins both earning places on the ECC Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll.
Bonin, making her second consecutive appearance on the tally for the Knights, played all 45 minutes for the Knights in a 73-66 overtime victory over the Ravens. The sophomore guard had a game-high 24 points, hitting 50 percent (9-for-18) of her shots from the field while also pulling down three rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Hopkins starred off the bench for Queens College in a 73-66 overtime victory versus Franklin Pierce on Saturday (Dec. 16). The junior guard scored 22 points and pulled down three rebounds, knocking down 50 percent (7-for-14) of her field goals in the win. Hopkins was also 8-for-11 from the free throw line, scoring the first six points of the overtime period from the charity stripe to lift Queens to its fifth win on the season. It is the junior transfer's first appearance on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll.
The Queens College women's basketball team returns to action on Dec. 30 when the Knights play host to the Firebirds of UDC at Lucille Kyvallos Court at Fitzgerald Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the last game for QC of the 2017 calendar year---which is also the first home conference contest of the basketball season.
