QC loses last minute heartbreaker to C.W. Post, 69-67
Gina Catherall made a lay-up and a free throw with 5.5 seconds remaining to give C.W. Post a 69-67 victory over QC in the Knights 2009-2010 home opener. Senior Brittany Faherty tied a career high with 16 points to lead the Knights offense in an East Coast Conference match-up.
QC sprinted out to a 11-4 lead to start the game but Post rallied to outscore the home team by a 21-5 margin midway through the first half on their way to a 32-27 halftime lead. The Knights would rally in the second half, taking a 48-41 lead on a jumper by Jessica Fairweather with 8:50 elapsed.
Post would answer in this seesaw affair to go ahead 55-54 with 7:25 remaining on a Jasmine Moore three pointer but the Knights responded to regain the upper hand on a Jennifer Robbins bucket 32 seconds later.
The lead changed hands once more before QC forged a 67-63 advantage with 2:03 left on a Chloe Johnson three pointer. With the Knights ahead 67-64, Gina Catherall made a steal and in the subsequent possession, Nicolette Marciniak scored off an offensive rebound to pull Post within a point with 33 seconds remaining.
Post would steal the ball once again - Noelle Pawlicki made the theft with 10 seconds left this time - and Jasmine Moore found Catherall for the and one and a two point victory.
Amanda Bartlett, who left the game with 15:40 to go and did not return, had 11 points and five assists for QC while C.W. Post was led by Catherall and Janae Aiken, both with 17.
