QC advances to ECC title game, Bartlett scores 1,00th point

Top seed Queens College defeated fifth seed C.W. Post College, 71-61, to advance to the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Championship game. Jennifer DiChiara led the Lady Knights with 26 while sophomore Amanda Bartlett added 18, including the 1,000th point of her collegiate career.

Bartlett fittingly connected on a three pointer to become a member of the 1,000 point club with 7:29 elapsed in the first half. That shot gave QC a 17-8 lead, one of three nine point advantages the Lady Knights held in the first 20 minutes. DiChiara finished the half with 13 and Bartlett added 10 to enable QC to take a 32-28 edge into the break.

The top seed continued to hold the lead until Whitney Murrer put C.W. Post on top, 51-49, with 7:04 remaining in the ECC semifinal. A three by Kara Otterbine gave QC a brief 52-51 edge before Gina Catherall put Post ahead for the final time with 6:25 left. Two free throws by Janine Maser 24 seconds later were followed by a DiChiara bucket and two more from the charity stripe from Bartlett for a 58-53 lead with 5:13 left as the Lady Knights put Post in the rear view mirror for good.

QC, 23-6 on the season, face Dowling College tomorrow at noon with the title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line. This will be the first time that the Lady Knights have ever played in a Division II Conference Championship game. Dowling won both meetings between the two colleges this season.
