LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior ToniMarie Valeriano of the Queens College softball team earned all-region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Wednesday, landing a spot on the All-East Region Second Team at first base.
Last week, Valeriano was honored as a first team all-conference selection at first base by the East Coast Conference (ECC), her third straight All-ECC nod. She was named ECC Player of the Week on April 18 after hitting .478 over eight games, while posting a 0.98 ERA in the circle that week.
Valeriano posted a career-best .365 batting average this season, while she also put forth career highs in on-base percentage (.396), slugging percentage (.531) and doubles (10). She led the team in average, doubles and on-base percentage, as well as hits with 35. Valeriano scored 14 runs, drove in 13 and hit two home runs.
The junior recorded a hit in 22 of the Knights' 30 games, including nine multi-hit games. In a doubleheader sweep of Bridgeport on April 15, Valeriano combined to go 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI and the deciding two-run homer in a 2-1 win in game two. She also combined to go 3-for-7 with four RBI and three runs in a doubleheader sweep of St. Thomas Aquinas on April 29.
Meanwhile, Valeriano was also a force in the circle for the Knights. She led the team in ERA (2.97) and strikeouts (60) over 63.2 innings of work, while picking up three wins and throwing six complete games. She tossed a four-hit shutout with six strikeouts in a 1-0 win over Mercy on March 29.
