Miracco, QC walk off with sweep

Katie Miracco hit a two out, two run walk-off home run to give the Lady Knights a 5-3 victory in the second game of a twin bill with Nyack College. Bryttne Nelson fanned 10 in a 7-0 win in the opener.
Nyack scored once in the second and twice in the third off of Adriana Faria to open up a 3-0 lead in the nightcap. QC got back in the game in the fourth when Sara Koumou follwed a Danielle DiGioia single with her fifth homer of the season, cutting Nyack's lead to a run. The Lady Knights tied the game in the sixth on a lead off double by Miracco and a bunt single by pinch hitter Laura Guzman with two outs. Then, with two outs in the seventh, Destiny Ocasio singled, went to second on a wild throw, and scored on Miracco's long ball.
Miracco, Ocasio and DiGioia accounted for much of QC's offense with Miracco getting three hits while Ocasio and DiGioia each banged out two in the win. Christy Sanders picked up the victory in relief of Faria, throwing four innings of no-hit ball and fanning eight in the process. At one point Sanders K'd six consecutive Nyack hitters.
QC began the day with a 7-0 win in which Nelson pitched six innings, yielding only two hits and two walks while striking out ten. Six different Lady Knights drove in runs, including Jill Rini, who connected for her first home run of 2009. Danielle DiGioia also narrowly missed a three run homer, having to settle for a two run double off of the top of the fence in left center in the fifth that put QC ahead 5-0.
