Lady Knights edged in 10; second game suspended

The Lady Knights were edged by Dowling College, 5-4, in 10 innings in the first game of a doubleheader in Flushing. The second game was suspended due to darkness after three innings with Queens College leading, 4-3.

QC broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning of the opener. Sara Koumou got things started with a lead-off home run, her fourth of the season. Megan White followed with a her team leading seventh home run to give QC a 2-0 lead. Then, with two outs, Destiny Ocasio singled in Samantha Stallone and Adriana Faria with the Lady Knights' third and fourth runs of the frame.

Starter Christy Sanders made the lead hold up until the top of the seventh when, with none on and two out, Dowling scored four to tie the game. A walk to Kacie Pinto and a home run by Jackie Hannan made it a 4-2 game. Then, a Kristina DeMeo single and homer by Emily Slack tied things up at 4. Dowling scored an unearned run in the 10th to win it, 5-4.

White had three hits in five at bats for QC in the loss.
