Fifth Ranked QC salvages spilt with Pace

Destiny Ocasio had two hits and two RBIs and Bryttne Nelson picked up the last three outs in relief of starter and winner Victoria Coan as QC beat Pace University, 5-4, in game two of a twin bill played in Flushing. Before the start of the day the Lady Knights learned that they had been ranked fifth in the East Region in an NCAA Poll released earlier in the day. Pace won the opener, 8-2.
Pace jumped on Coan for two runs in the first inning of the nightcap but QC answered with a pair in the third to tie the game. Megan White then smashed her third home run of the year to ignite a three run fourth that gave the Lady Knights the lead for good. Roseann Mercurio scored on the back end of a double steal for the second run of the frame and Ocasio doubled in Samantha Stallone with two outs to round out the scoring for QC. Pace pushed across one run in the seventh but Nelson retired pinch hitter Victoria Palleschi on a pop up to Ocasio with the bases juiced to end the game.
Ocasio was one for three with an RBI in the opener but her team could only muster four hits in losing, 8-2.
