Lady Knights drop a pair of slugfests to NYIT

Queens College lost to New York Tech, 8-6 and 7-5, in a pair of East Coast Conference games played in Flushing on Tuesday afternoon. The two clubs combined for 37 hits, including seven home runs, in the twin bill.
Katie Miracco opened the scoring in game one in the third inning when she connected for a two out, two run home run off of NYIT starter Nina Cesare. QC's lead was short-lived as Tech answered with a five run fourth, highlighted by a three run homer by Ashley Gosk.
The Lady Knights used the long ball to pull within a run in the bottom of the inning as Megan White went deep for the first time in 2009 with a runner aboard. NYIT expanded their lead to 6-4 by adding an unearned run in the sixth but Bryttne Nelson hit the Lady Knights' third two run home run of the game to knot the score at 6.
Tech went ahead for good in their half of the seventh on a two run single by Marissa Brucculeri, who pitched a one-two-three seventh to pick up the win in relief.
In the nightcap, NYIT jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after their first at bat but the Lady Knights responded with three in the second - RBI singles by Samantha Stallone and Christina Colon and an unearned run - to pull even. An Adriana Faria run scoring single in the third put QC ahead 4-3 but Tech scored one in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to build a 7-4 lead. A solo home run by Destiny Ocasio in the seventh, QC's fourth four bagger of the day, made the final NYIT 7 QC 5.
